Many times, the early stages of periodontal disease are best treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy. Even in severe cases, non-surgical periodontal therapy often precedes surgical therapy. This may be done to improve the overall tissue quality prior to surgery and also to help limit the areas requiring periodontal surgery. Conservative therapy can also be used to hold your condition stable allowing surgical therapy to be planned for a convenient time. There are some situations where your condition may dictate considering bypassing the non-surgical phase. Dr Manhart will visit with you regarding the pros and cons of these different approaches.
